Pessimism in Thomas Hardyââ¬â¢s The Darkling Thrush Essay -- Darkling Thru
Pessimism in doubting doubting Thomas Hardys The darkling ThrushThomas Hardys literary works are often imbued with pessimism, and his poem The Darkling Thrush is non an exception. Through the starkness of the landscape, the narrators musings on the centurys finale, and the narrators reaction to the songbird, The Darkling Thrush reveals Hardys preoccupation with time, change, and remorse.Written in four octaves, A Darkling Thrush opens with a view of a desolate winter landscape. With spectre-grey frost covering everything in sight (line 2), all dexterous colours and sounds are smothered with an intangible film of bleakness. This sorrowfulness is not to be dispersed, for the imagery of Winters dregs suggests that there exists a residue of the years melancholy (3). The burden of the word dregs creates a caesura, and the heaviness of the poem is reinforced with alternating lines of iambic tetrameters and iambic trimeters. The tangled bine-stems that scored the sky (5) and the lan ds sharp features (9) move the mephitic pessimism to a more sharply defined pain that is intensified with the initial rhyme in his crypt the cloudy canopy (11). The bleak twigs overhead (18) cast a sharp image of bars stretching across the sky, embracing the gloominess in Hardys world. Reflecting the narrators sense of perceptions, the olive-drab landscape mirrors the narrators depression and projects his emotions into solid images. An occasional poem, A Darkling Thrush depicts the setting of one century and the birth of another done the narrators eyes. Leaning perhaps wearily on the encounter gate, the narrator observes how even the people that haunt the land like insensitive wanderers (7) return to their homes where brightly shine their fires, a ... ...llest cause for hope. The thrushs exuberance seeps into the narrators life for a brief moment, revealing to him a life lived to the fullest, yet the narrator remains unconvinced and melancholy. Submerging The Darkling Thrus h in a dreary landscape devoid of life and colour, Thomas Hardy is able to weave pessimism into his work, providing a core of bleak emotions for his narrator, who sees no hope for the empty society he lives in. Even when he catches a glimpse of cheerfulness from an old thrush, the narrator declares his personal plight excluded from the come-at-able causes of joy. With all signs of hope criticized as being absurd, Thomas Hardys The Darkling Thrush conveys a purely pessimistic view.Work CitedHardy, Thomas, The Darkling Thrush. 1900. Philosophy of Teaching Statement :: Education Teaching Teachers Essays
Philosophy of article of faith StatementI believe that the key to a good fostering begins with the hearer. The first impression that a teacher leaves on a disciple pass on be carried with them throughout their entire education, therefore as a teacher we should be c areful with giving negative feedback. Small children number everything to heart and believe every thing they hear. It is important that we praise them often. allow every child know that they have the potential to do and be anything they want to do.Working as a substitute teachers aide all over the county has allowed me to observe the nature of students that come from a wide variety of backgrounds. A child that comes from a more advantaged life-style does not necessarily mean that, that child will outstrip in school. Sometimes the child that comes form the poorest conditions is the hardest worker. Children who excel in Math may find themselves bored in an English class. I have agreen students that are com pletely lazy, that refuse to accept any challenge. On the other hand, I have observed students who just appear lazy, that are really agile that cannot seem to get a grasp on learning. therefore again there are students who are so intelligent that they excel in everything. Some students seem to have so much love inside of them, that it difficult for them to concentrate and learn. While others are calm, absorbing everything that is macrocosm taught. I feel that all students can learn it is just a matter of finding a way of teaching that is interesting to them but will still hold the attention of the others in the classroom. The overall innovation of education is to guide students in the direction of future leadership. To ensure that they will be able to be role models for the next generation. If a teacher shows a child that learning is fun, then hopefully these children will see the importance in learning, and maybe grow up to want to teach also. To allow students to be t he best at whatever they choose to be. I feel that being able to read and write is what the world is ground on. If you cannot read, you are denied the simplest pleasures in life. Like reading road signs, to gain information about the direction that you traveling or reading recipes to prepare a meal.

Smallville and its popularity :: essays research papers fc
Sm totallyville vs. other Superman seriesMan, through break the ages, has looked to the stars with dandy amusement and curiosity. Wondrous stories are born of these magical, glimmering specs in the sky. Stories of tragedy, magic and heroism. These stories entertain and more, they give us hope. A tale of the stars standardised no other is the one of Superman, protector of planet Earth. As give tongue to by the Superman stories, Clark Kent was discovered by Martha and Jonathan Kent shortly after a meteor shower hit the town of Smallville. Martha insisted on keeping the new-fashioned boy and taking him into their family. Clark grew up on a farm dower out with chores and being loved by his human mother and father. The only if difference with Clarks upbringing was that in the comics, he was just a baby when discovered by the Kents. In Smallville he was a boy about 6 years of age when he was found. This very exposure I speak of has been played over and over in television system be sides the WB hit, Smallville (Kal-El). For exampleIn the 1990s cartoon Pinky and the outlook, The Brain tracks down Supermans rocket ship and tries to raise Clark himself, with Pinky. Fortunately, the super baby turns out to be too much for the Brain, as changing diapers requires an oxygen suit, and the little kid of steel uses his heat vision to blast the lab rat. frustrate Clark makes his way back to the field where he landed and where the Kents find him. (Kal-El) The some famous version of this scene is shown in the Superman Movie with Glenn crossway playing Jonathan Kent and Phyllis Thaxter playing Martha Kent (Smallville). In this version the Kents find Clark and he displays his powers correct away instead of demonstrating them over his juvenile years like in the Smallville series. It was so smart for someone to answer everyones questions as to how Clark grew up by giving them the front row seat to Clarks teenage years. Especially since in any other version of Superman a ll we knew of was when he was discovered and when he was already Superman. Martha and Jonathan Kent have changed in the stories as well. All of the Superman stories have the Kents as an elderly pair in their sixties (Superboy). The 1978 movie version shows the Kents older and so does the Lois and Clark TV series.

For Lucy had her work cut out for her (Woolf 3), he n otes that it is not often that the upper-class women deport out their own duties. The women are also perceived as purposeless because they do not have to work for a living. The upper-class women go past much of their leisure time shopping, maintaining their social role by aid social gatherings, and indulging in their desires. They seem to live a consume lifestyle because they lived with everything they wanted (Woolf 111), whether it was breakfast in bed (Woolf 111), or having servants to do their work for them.Austens Sense and Sensibility provides detailed perceptions of the upper-class lifestyles. equal to Woolfs descriptions in Mrs. Dalloway, the aspects of the upper-class in Austens novel mean that they live a relaxed lifestyle.... ...hasize the influences that the upper-class social status has on a persons lifestyle, behavior, and perspective of others. They also emphasize the social expectations and restrictions for the upper-class women, including their social role, a ppearance, and personalities.
